A fusão única da rica tradição da azulejaria de Sevilha, famosa pelos seus padrões ornamentados e cores vibrantes, e dos padrões holandeses, conhecidos pela precisão geométrica, figuras avulsas e utilização de cores sóbrias, foi a inspiração para a obra Sevilha XVII. Essa combinação cria uma síntese visual que reflete a interação cultural que resultou do reinado de Espanha sobre as províncias do Sul dos Países Baixos até meio do século XVII.
Sendo a azulejaria e a transformação de fios duas formas de arte tradicionais, pretendeu-se criar algo original na sua combinação numa obra têxtil. A peça “Sevilha XVII” reinterpreta o tema de mosaicos usados em Sevilha em pavimentos do princípio do séc. XVII, nos quais é utilizado o esquema compositivo dos azulejos holandeses, onde o motivo principal ocupa o círculo central e os pequenos motivos florais secundários preenchem os ângulos das peças de formato.

Sevilha XVII
The unique fusion of the rich tradition of Seville tiles, famous for their ornate patterns and vibrant colors, and Dutch designs, known for their geometric precision, distinct figures, and sober colors, was the inspiration for the work “Seville XVII”. This combination creates a visual synthesis that reflects the cultural interaction that resulted from the period of Spain's reign over the southern provinces of the Netherlands until the mid-17th century.
As tiles and the transformation of threads are two traditional art forms, the aim with this piece was to create something original in their combination in a textile work. The piece “Seville XVII” reinterprets the typical mosaics used in tiled floors in Seville in the beginning of the 17th century, where the compositional scheme of Dutch tiles is visible by the presence of the main motif in the central circle, while smaller secondary floral motifs fill the corners of the square-shaped pieces.
